Italy - Shroud of Turin & Veronica's Veil
Day 1: NORTH AMERICA - EUROPE. Tour members depart to Milan from
the United States. Dinner will be served aboard the flight.
Day 2: ARRIVE MILAN. Upon our arrival at the Milan airport we
take a panoramic tour of the city. Dinner and overnight at our hotel.
Day 3: MILAN - TURIN. This morning, we visit some of the
highlights: La Scala Opera House, the Duomo, the Church of Santa Maria delle
Grazia - home of Leonardo da Vinci's "Last Supper" art work. Continue our drive
to Turin. Dinner and overnight at our hotel.
Day
4: TURIN - GENOA - PISA - FLORENCE. This morning, we have a visit of the Shroud.
Then continue through Genoa Seaport and see the Torre della Lanterna, the
ancient lighthouse of Genoa and the statue dedicated to Christopher Columbus.
Continue to Pisa for a short stop to see the Leaning Tower and then on to
Florence. Dinner and overnight at our hotel.
Day 5: FLORENCE - SIENA - ASSISI. Today, we begin our beautiful
trip by visiting the Piazza della Signoria where the Neptune Fountain stands.
Then, we visit Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistery with its "Gates of Paradise"
doors and the Academia that houses the Michelangelo's original statue of David.
We also see the Santa Croce Church - the famous church where Dante,
Michelangelo, Leonard da Vinci and many others are buried. Then we drive
southwest; through the heart of Italian wine country, over rolling hills of
Chianti, in a beautiful landscape of a Renaissance painting. In Siena, you will
be lead to the Piazza del Campo, through narrow streets, past medieval towers
and walls. Continue on to the mystic province of Umbria and its capital city of
Assisi, town of St. Francis. Dinner and overnight at our hotel in Assisi.
Day 6: ASSISI - MANOPPELLO - ROME. This morning, we take a
walking tour includes Santa Maria degli Angeli with the "thornless rose bush",
the Basilica of St. Francis and the Church of St. Clare, which to this Day
houses her incorrupt body. Then drive through the Roman countryside to
Manoppello to visit the Franciscan Monastery where the Veil of Veronica is
located. If time allows, we will stop at Lanciano to visit the church of the
Eucharistic Miracle. Continue to Rome. Upon arrival we visit City Hall, the
Trevi Fountain, St. Peter in chains, Arch of Constantine and Circus Maximus.
Dinner and overnight at our hotel.
Day
7: ROME. Early morning, we attend an Audience with our Holy Father (if
available). Then, we visit three of the four major basilicas in Rome (the other
being St. Peter's Basilica). These basilicas include St. Mary Major, St. John
Lateran, and St. Paul Outside the Walls. See the Coliseum - site of early
Christian martyrdom - and Mamertine Prison, possibly the final place of
confinement of the Apostle Paul before his execution. Return to our hotel for
dinner and overnight.
Day 8: ROME. Today, we have a half day tour of Rome. Visit the
Vatican City which includes the Museum, the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Square
and Church, Basilica of St. Paul. Then the ancient Appian Way and the catacombs
of St. Caliztus. Balance of the afternoon is for leisure and shopping. Farewell
dinner on our own tonight. Overnight at our hotel.
Day 9: ROME - NORTH AMERICA. Early departure from Rome to the
United States - the end of a most enjoyable journey.
