Day 1: NORTH AMERICA - EUROPE. Depart North America for our flight to Rome. Dinner and breakfast will be served aloft.
Day 3: ROME. After breakfast, depart for Papal Audience (if available). The afternoon will be spent with a tour of St. Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Museum and Library, as well as the Sistine Chapel. Balance of the Day at leisure. Dinner and overnight in Rome. Day 4: ROME. A half Day tour of Rome will follow continental breakfast at the hotel. We will visit the Catacombs, the Appian Way, Capitoline Hill, St. Peter in Chains, Coliseum, Arch of Constantine, Circus Maximus, and Palazza Venezia. We will also visit three of the four major basilicas in Rome (the other being St. Peter's Basilica). These basilicas include St. Mary Major, St. John Lateran, and St. Paul Outside the Walls. Dinner and overnight in Rome.
Day 6: SORRENTO - SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO. Early morning departure from Sorrento for Padre's Pio San Giovanni Rotondo, and then visit Padre Pio's tomb and cell; the old church where he received the stigmata; his confessional; and the new Church of Santa Maria Delle Grazia. Also visit the Grotto of St. Michael and Padre Pio's most famous charitable work, the Home for the Relief of Suffering. Dinner and overnight in San Giovanni. Day 7: SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO - LANCIANO - LORETO. Morning departure from San Giovanni for Loreto with stop in Lanciano, where there is a relic of the living flesh of Jesus in a special Monstrance and Tabernacle. Late afternoon arrival in Loreto, with sightseeing of the Basilica where the home of the Holy Family of Nazareth now stands without a foundation. Dinner and overnight in Loreto.
Day 9: ASSISI. Today we will travel to lovely Siena, the birthplace of St. Catherine. Siena, located in the central Italian region of Tuscany, is a medieval walled city that to this Day retains much of its charm. Included in this tour will be visits to the Piazza del Campo, the center of the city, the Palazza Pubblico (Town Hall famous for its gothic architecture), and the Cathedral. Return to Assisi for dinner and overnight. Day 10: ASSISI - FLORENCE. We will depart Assisi for Florence, the "City of Art", where we will see the Baptistery with its "Gates Worthy of Heaven" (Michelangelo) and the famous cathedral. Also included will be visits to Santa Croce and the "David". Dinner and overnight in Florence.
Day 12: FLORENCE - PADUA. Breakfast in hotel and departure for Padua. Crossing through the regions of Tuscany and Emilia Romagna and arriving in Padua you can still view from the motorway including the seven chapels of the sanctuary of Monselice. Late afternoon arrival in Padua for a visit of the Basilica and tomb of St. Anthony. Dinner and overnight in Padua.
Day 14: VENICE. FREE Day in Venice for sightseeing and shopping. Dinner and overnight in Venice. Day 15: VENICE - NORTH AMERICA. Depart for Venice Airport for our flight back to the United States. The end of a most enjoyable tour. |
