Day 1: NORTH AMERICA - LISBON. Depart USA for our
overnight flight to Lisbon, Portugal. We are served dinner and breakfast aloft.
Day
2: LISBON - FATIMA. We arrive at the Lisbon Airport where we are met and
given an orientation tour of Lisbon including Pombal square, the Liberty Avenue,
Rossio Square, Belem Tower and the Monument to the Discoveries on the bank of
the Tagus. We also stop at Lisbon's Romanesque Cathedral, the Sé.
En route to Fatima, we visit Santarem, the Church of Marvila and the site of the
Eucharistic Miracle. Time for mass is available. We continue to Fatima and our
hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: FATIMA. Today, our morning is devoted to visiting
the Basilica and Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima and the birthplaces of Francisco,
Jacinta and Lucia to whom the Virgin appeared for the first time on May 13th,
1917. Dinner and overnight at our hotel. In the evening, we join the Rosary and
candlelight procession.
Day 4: FATIMA - SALAMANCA. This morning, following Mass at
the Shrine, we depart Fatima and drive into Spain. Later today, we arrive in
Salamanca and a visit to the new Cathedral. Dinner and overnight at our hotel.
Day
5: SALAMANCA - VALLEY OF THE FALLEN - MADRID. We begin our day this morning
in Salamanca. Here we visit the Cathedral where we celebrate Mass and then head
towards Madrid. We have a brief stop at the Valley of the Fallen, a spectacular
monument to the dead of the Spanish Civil War, for an optional tour. We continue
to Madrid for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: MADRID. This morning, we see all the highlights of
the capital of Spain, including the Gran Via Plaza de España, the Viaduct, Plaza
Major, the Bull Ring, Independence and Cibeles Squares, the University, and the
Paseo de la Castellana. Afternoon is at leisure for activities on our own.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 7: MADRID - ZARAGOZA - PAMPLONA. This morning, we
depart Madrid and travel north through the Spanish country. We arrive in
Zaragoza, which was founded by the Romans. Its luxuriant vegetation with its
many cascades and grottos make it a miniature Switzerland in the middle of arid
upper Aragon. This city was also the birthplace of Goya, whose works grace many
of the sites we will visit. The #1 Marian shrine of Spain, the Pilar
Basilica commemorates apparitions of Our Lady the Pillar to St. James in 40 AD,
and here we celebrate Mass. Continue to Pamplona for a tour of the city.
Pamplona became the capital of Navarre in the 10th century. Its golden age was
during the reign of Charles III (called "the Noble"), who gave it its Cathedral
and where he was eventually buried. Dinner and overnight at our hotel here.
Day
8: PAMPLONA - LOURDES. This morning, we depart Pamplona and traverse the
Pyrenees northward entering southern France. Late this afternoon, we arrive in
Lourdes where we celebrate Mass before proceeding to our hotel for dinner and
overnight. Tonight following dinner, we have the option of participating in the
Torch light Procession.
Day 9: LOURDES - TOULOUSE. This morning, we begin with a
private Mass at the Grotto. The morning is free for personal devotions to Our
Lady of Lourdes including, for those who wish, the legendary, healing waters of
the miraculous Lourdes spring. This afternoon, our walking tour takes us to Boly
Mill (the birthplace of St. Bernadette), the Cachot (the former jail
where she lived during the apparitions) and the local parish church. This
evening, we have an optional farewell dinner before continuing to Toulouse for
overnight.
Day 10: TOULOUSE - NORTH AMERICA. We transfer to the
airport for our flight home - the end of an unforgettable journey.
