As part of a vow to God, the villagers of Oberammergau in Bavaria, Germany, put on a play depicting the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus once every ten years. The villagers originally undertook the play, which involved the entire village as castmembers in greatfulness for having been spared from the Bubonic Plague.
