3 Day Italy, Switzerland and Passion Play

OBERAMMERGAU PASSION PLAY 2022

DAY 01:  NORTH AMERICA / EUROPE.  Evening departure from North America.  Dinner and breakfast are served on-board our trans-Atlantic flight.  

DAY 02:  ROME.  On arrival at the Rome Airport we are met by our tour escort and motor coach.  Time at leisure this afternoon before dinner and overnight. 

DAY 03: ROME.  After breakfast our tour highlights include City Hall, the Trevi Fountain, the Coliseum, St. Peter in chains, Appian Way, Palazzo Venezia, Arch of Constantine, and the Catacombs.  This afternoon is at leisure for options of your own, such as The Vatican City including the Vatican Museum and Gallery, Raphael's Rooms, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica.  Dinner and overnight at our hotel.

DAY 04: ROME / ASSISI / MONTECATINI. Morning sightseeing begins with a drive to the mystic province of Umbria and its capital city of Assisi, town of St. Francis.  Our afternoon walking tour includes Santa Maria degli Angeli with the "thornless rose bush", the Basilica of St. Francis and the Church of St. Clare.  Continue to Montecatini for dinner and overnight at our hotel.

DAY 05:  MONTECATINI TERME (FLORENCE). Today we continue to Florence, the city considered to be the cultural heart of Italy and former stronghold of the Medici family. Visit the Piazza della Signoria, where the Neptune Fountain stands.  Then we visit the Florence Cathedral, the Baptistery with it's "Gates of Paradise" doors,  and the Medici Chapels.  Afternoon is at leisure for an optional visit to the Academia that houses the Michelangelo's original statue of David.  Return to Montecatini for dinner and overnight.

DAY 06: MONTECATINI TERME / PISA / TURIN / GENEVA.   Drive across serene countryside to Pisa to see the leaning Tower. Continue to Turin and a visit to the Chapel of the Holy Shroud inside the Cathedral of St. John. Then drive through the Mt. Blanc Tunnel to Geneva for dinner and overnight. 

DAY 07: GENEVA / ZURICH.   After breakfast where we will see the blossoming flower clock, the 500 foot high Jet d'Eau Fountain as well as pay a visit to the World Council of Churches headquarters, St. Pierre's Cathedral and the Reformation Monument. Also visit the Temple de L’auditoire and the Cemetery des Rois and the Monument de la reformation. Drive past turquoise lakes and needle-like summit peaks to Zurich.  Dinner and overnight at our hotel.

DAY 08:  ZURICH / LIECHTENSTEIN / INNSBRUCK.  Our tour of Zurich, Switzerland’s largest city and one of the world’s most important financial centers, will show us the Grossmunster, Zwingli’s Great Church and the Wasserkirche.  Then drive to the tiny independent principality of Liechtenstein and its picture book capital of Vaduz.  Nature then steals the show with matchless viscous of 10,000 foot summits as we scale the mighty Arlberg Pass to drive through the winter sports resort of St. Anton and then into the Austrian Tyrol - Innsbruck - where we will see the famed Maria Theresiastrasse, the emperor Maximillians "Golden Roof", the Hofkirche and other points of interest.  Dinner and overnight at our hotel.   

DAY 09: INNSBRUCK / GARMISCH / OBERAMMERGAU.  We drive this morning into the Bavarian Alps and through the winter sports resort village of Garmisch Partenkirchen.  Then to the beautiful Bavarian village of Oberammergau, home of the world-famous Passion Play which is performed once every ten years.  

DAY 10:  PASSION PLAY.   The entire day is devoted to attending a performance of the world famous Passion Play which is held once every ten years in this charming small Bavarian village.  Dinner and overnight.

DAY 11: OBERAMMERGAU / LINDERHOFF / MUNICH. After breakfast this morning we continue to Linderhoffs Castle - built by mad King Ludwig - a dazzling castle set high in the Bavarian Alps.  Our day finishes in Munich, the largest and liveliest city in Bavaria, where we arrive in time for dinner and overnight at our hotel.   

DAY 12:  MUNICH. Our morning sightseeing tour of Munich includes the gothic Rathdus (town hall) with its famous glockenspiel, the awesome twin-spired Frauenkirche, Marienplatz, imperial residence Alte Pinakothec and other principle places of interest. Some time at leisure for activities of your own this afternoon.  Dinner and overnight at our hotel.

DAY 13:  MUNICH / NORTH AMERICA.  After breakfast we will transfer to the airport for our return the United States of America.  The end of a most enjoyable journey.
